Biology Honors

1,325.00

Grade: 11
This course follows the school-year
curriculum and fulfills the Parish junior year Science course requirement. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for placement into AP Biology. This course introduces students to the mechanisms and diversity of life within an evolutionary context. Essential themes of biology are integrated across the topics covered: biological systems, the cellular basis of life, form and function, reproduction and inheritance, interaction with the environment, energy and life, regulation, adaptation and evolution. Laboratory exercises are performed to reinforce concepts, and current events are used to supplement discussions. Outstanding students who complete this course are encouraged to consider AP
Biology as an option for the following year. Students taking this course must still be enrolled in five core courses during their junior year. Biology Honors is a full year course which counts as one credit toward Parish graduation requirements, and it fulfills the 11th grade science requirement. Students are required to attend 14 of 16 face-to-face sessions, two of which are mandatory. More information will be provided at an information session during the first week of May. Instructors will contact students with an exact date and time.
