Where the Wild Fauves Are*

Where the Wild Fauves Are*

Grades: K-5

Fauvism is the style of les Fauves, French for “the wild beasts.” Fauvism is known for its expressive, bold and undisguised brushstrokes and vibrant colors, direct from the tube. In this class, students are challenged to create art bursting with color through bold paint strokes and simple composition on canvas and birch wood panel. Students will examine famous Fauve painters, like Matisse and Chagall, and use their work to inspire their own masterpieces.
